I have been seriously, debilitatingly ill since 1990 due to breast implants. They were presented to me then as a benign and safe answer to my sagging, empty, very much implemented breasts as I was the mother of six – who breastfed exclusively for two years plus with my last four children. One year after the plastic surgeon implanted polyurethane covered silicone breast implants I could barely walk with pain and found my normal busy life as a wife , mom and homemaker had completely come to a halt. I was desperately lethargic and found any and all movement incredibly hard. My healthy and very active life has been sacrificed for the sake of my vanity. Breast implants were the worst decision I’ve ever made in that the lives of my entire family have had to deal with our evolvement for almost 30 years sans wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, and great grandmother. I could go through the litany of doctors, procedures, prescriptions, diseases, hospital stays and ER close calls but I will leave that for another time. My message here is simple…. women were lied to then, they are continuing to be lied to now as to the safety of these crippling medical devices. I have been through litigation revealing the FACTS that those manufacturers producing implants knowingly put forth an extremely lucrative product with unquestionable and documented health hazards with the decision to deal with the few who forged ahead in lawsuits because the $ gain far exceeded occasional compensation. My settlement was considerable but laughingly ridiculous when compared to the monies it has taken to care for my needs. In addition to my monthly management with half dozen specialists I also must pay for prescriptions in the thousands of dollars and leasing of O2 concentrators and a non invasive ventilator… every single month. Not including wheelchair, walker and cane. I am legally bound to silence regarding my settlement… and most probably have divulged too much information here but my cost has surpassed dollars and has cut into the fiber of my being. My 14 grandchildren and one great grandson will never know the woman I could have been, and my husband has resigned himself to be my caretaker. I wanted much more for them all.
Fight to inform the public. Never cease to encourage the prohibition of these implants that I have seen hurt men and women both as males often allow themselves to be implanted so to physically repair muscles they are born without. One gentleman in Methodist Hospital, Houston Texas was ill with the same complaints and disease we women have experienced. Silicone and polyurethane know no gender. They are quite toxic to females and makes.
